Produced by K.E.Gnanavelraja, S.R.Prakash Babu and S.R.Prabhu, this film, a city-based subject, is being directed by Suseendran( remembered fondly for his ‘Vennila Kabadi kuzhu’). We have Karthi, Kajal Aggarwal, Jayaprakash, Soori and others starring in it. Yuvan Shankar Raja handles the music department. Yuvan and Karthi come together for the third time here, after the very successful ‘Paruthiveeran’ and ‘Paiyaa’. Has the magic come through in this album too? Let us check.
Va Va Nilava Pidichu..
Vocals: Rahul Nambiar
Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar
Ah, such sweet lyrics! One is glad that Yuvan chose just the right rhythm and melody to keep its feel intact. This song, with an Ilayaraja touch to it, just wafts into your ears like a spring breeze. Accordion- like notes, soft flute bits and the interesting turn into Shanmukapriya raga when the chorus goes’ni sa ri ga ri sa ni, ma pa dha ni dha pa ma’ all add to the interest. The song itself seems to follow the Suddha Danyasi scale.
Iragai Polae...
Vocals: Yuvan and Tanvi Shah
Lyrics: Yugabarathy
Interesting rhythm pattern, but something you’ve heard before in some of his songs. What holds you here is the way he has wrapped it softly round the lyrics and the quirky, (repetitive) instrumental bit after ‘nee mattum podhum’ that seems to say ‘oh, yeah; oh yeah’. Tidy string work. The song gets amusingly assertive at the end. A little more emotion from Yuvan could have been nicer.
Oru Maalai Neram...
Vocals: Javed Ali, Shilpa Rao
Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar
The wonderful nervous excitement that accompanies the process of falling in love is so adequately reflected in this number, with its sharp fluttery notes. Again, the accordion-like notes that playfully go’ ma pa ma pa—ga sa ni sa ni dha—dha ni dha pa—etc (on the Natabairavi scale) add a fine folksy touch. Javed Ali is heartwarming.
Dheivam Illai...
Vocals: Madhu Balakrishnan
Lyrics: Yugabarathy
A mournful dirge, sung with a rare sensitivity by Madhu Balakrishnan. The rhythms and music stand almost politely behind. This song probes the loss of a mother. We think Yuvan has used the Saveri raga here (the notes ‘ma pa dha sa; pa dha ri sa sa etc;), but we are not sure. With good emoting, it could make the right impact. Could hit the charts too.
Va Va Nilava: Repeat of song no.1
Verdict:
Softly expressive music, very pertinent lyrics, controlled beats, yes; this album has quite a few plus points. Nothing new, but something you’d love to curl up with on a rainy day. Let us see what Karthi adds to it on screen. Well done, Yuvan!
