Manchu Manoj Kumar has earned a name for himself as someone who is not afraid to experiment. His upcoming movie ‘Mr. Nokia’ seems to reaffirm this fact. Sana Khan and Kriti Kharbandha are the heroines in this project. Ani Kanneganti is the director and D.S.Rao is the producer. The audio album has been released recently and Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music. This album contains seven tracks in all. Let us see how it is.
01 - No.Keyia
Singers : Ranjith
Lyricist : Rama Jhogayya Sastry
This is an incredibly energetic track with some rocking music and outstanding vocals from Ranjith. After listening to it for a few times, this track becomes highly addictive. Ranjith must be commended for really elevating this song to another level with a superb performance. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is terrific.
02 - Oke Oka Jeevitham
Singers : Haricharan
Lyricist : Rama Jhogayya Sastry
This is a very romantic solo number with some very soulful and deep lyrics provided by Rama Jhogayya Sastry. Haricharan renders this song with a lot of emotion and this is carried through beautifully to the listener. Yuvan Shankar Raja makes lovely use of the guitar, violin and synthesizer to come up with a very melodious track. Thumbs Up!
03 - Pista Pista
Singers : Karthik, Yuvan
Lyricist : Manoj Manchu
Manchu Manoj has penned the lyrics for this peppy song. This number has been seen originally in the Tamil flick Vanam as ‘Evandi Unna Pethan’. Karthik and Yuvan Shankar Raja have done a good job with the lyrics. Music is terrific new age stuff and the soundtrack relies heavily on electronic instruments. I have a feeling that this song will become an instant rage among college students. Terrific foot tapping number.
04 - Pranam Poye Badha
Singers : Yuvan
Lyricist : Manoj Manchu
This is a sad solo number that captures the agony in the hero’s heart. Manchu Manoj’s lyrics are deep and effective. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s vocals do the job. Music is soft and stays mostly in the background. Decent Song
05 - No Money No Honey
Singers : Karthik, Premji
Lyricist : Rama Jhogayya Sastry
This number has a slightly mass touch and this is the kind of song that is picturized in ‘kallu compounds’. The song is a satirical take on the dominance of money in our lives. Rama Jhogayya Sastry’s lyrics are effective and carry a good punch. Karthik and Premji turn in a decent performance. This song will catch on of picturized well.
06 - Ye Janma Bandhamo
Singers : Ranjith, Priya Hemesh
Lyricist : Lakshmi Bhupal
This is the only duet of the album. This song has been seen in the Tamil flick ‘Kaadhal Konden’ as ‘Nenjodu Kalinthidu’. The song starts off with some very melodious music. Priya Hemesh’s voice literally drips with honey in this track.Outstanding performance from her. Ranjith’s voice kicks in only during the latter half of the song. Lakshmi Bhupal’s lyrics are excellent. Yuvan Shankar Raja proves that he is a worthy son of the Music Maestro Ilayaraja.
07 - Theme of No.Keyia
Singers : Blazee
Lyricist : Lakshmi Bhupal
This is the movie’s theme song and it has a very earthy feel. Blazee has rendered this song and Lakshmi Bhupal has penned the ‘lyrics’, if you can call them that. This song will most likely be used as a filler during titles or end credits. Music is ok.
Verdict
The audio album of ‘Mr. Nokia’ is one of the best ‘new age’ musicals to have come out from our industry in recent times. The album has a very nice mix of melody and new age techno stuff. Yuvan Shankar Raja has outdone himself with Mr. Nokia. The scope of this album will most likely be limited to A & B centers and young people. ‘No.Keyia’, ‘Oke Oka Jeevitham’, ‘Pista Pista’ and ‘Ye Janma Bandhamo’ are my picks from this superb album. Thumbs Up for Mr. Nokia’s soundtrack. I am off to listen to it once more.

Produced by S3 Films and directed by Boopathy Pandian (who did ‘Devathaiyai Kanden’ and ‘Malaikkottai’ earlier), this movie stars newcomers Balaji and Meghna Sundar. This is supposed to be a love story with a comic touch to it. Yuvan Shankar Raja scores the music for this film and the album lists five tracks.
01 - Oh Shala

Yes, your mind harks back to ‘Goa’ as you listen to it, but you do get to like it after a while. Especially for the use of cello and string instruments in the interludes. Portrays the tumbling sentiments of a love-stricken youngster. The way the thundering drums take off in the last part- ‘ursaagam melum melum aera---‘is quite amusing. Yuvan’s alluring voice mesmerizes the listener with simple but shrill beats and solo violin and guitar refreshes. English words seems to inevitable in our tamil song today as words “question”, “answer” pop up, otherwise purely tamil lyrics. This song is the best pick of the lot.
02 - Oru Vanavillin
Singers : Udit Narayan
Lyricists : Na. Muthukumar
No offence meant, but this song simply begs for Shankar Mahadevan! Udit Narayan and Yuvan treated us with a very slow romantic song in Yaradi Nee Mohini, this time, its a ‘happy go lucky’song with techno sounds and faster beats. As we are used to the Hindhi singer’s tamil slang, Yuvan has attempted in changing the chorus voice of men like making them inside an arena or a cave. You will never when the song starts and ends. Sounds good!
03 - Enna Enna Aagiraen
Singers : Vijay Yesudas
Lyricists : Na. Muthukumar
In spite of the assaulting rhythms, Vijay Yesudas lends a gentle air to this song with his polished voice. Neat notes of Natabairavi raga on the guitar’ sa ri ga ma ga; sa ri ga pa ma’ etc; pop up now and then. Nice lyrics. Refreshing Piano note at the starting immediately followed by Vijay Yesudas’s attention grabbing voice perfectly matches with the tempo of this solo-male song. Female humming and the grandeur of background music brings the right mood. Now it depends on the picturization of this song to take it further!
04 - Saamy Varugudhu
Singers : Chidambaram Sivakumar Poosari & Chorus
Lyricists : Na. Muthukumar
Ha, ha ,ha, ha! This tongue-in-cheek number has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with love! Just listen to the lyrics. But, why did the lightheartedness spill over into the sruti alignment too? The nagaswaram and vocals seem to clash sruti wise. This singer is an amusing find. A perfect village song praising “Love God” with typical “naatupuram” thavils and nadhaswarams. The tune with the lead singer and chorus following immediately, continues to succeed among the village audience.
05 - Anbulla Sandhya
Singers : Karthik
Lyricists : Na. Muthukumar
Karthik pulls off another winner here to the accompaniment of airy flute notes, pensive strings and subdued rhythms. You hear the Natabairavi raga again with a sudden dart into Shanmukapriya (on the strings) one and a half minutes into the song (with a playful use of ‘ma’ swara). A very pleasant melody, a sad solo number and Karthik’s voice is not evident when you hear it for the first time. Monotonous beats and touching tune will attract all heart-broken youths “dwelling in love”! Mostly Yuvan sings this type of song in, but now its Karthik, another song adding to his “Ava Enna thedi vandha anjala” type!
06 - Yedho Ondru Unnai

Haricharan known for his soothing voice which pulls off another winner here to the accompaniment of airy flute notes, pensive strings and subdued rhythms. A very pleasant melody, a sad solo number and Haricharan’s voice is evident from the beginning when you hear it for the first time. Monotonous beats and touching tune will attract all heart-broken youths “dwelling in love”! Mostly Yuvan sings this type of song in, but now its Haricharan. Yuvan has proved once again with this song that no body can beat him in these kinds of solo songs.
Verdict:
The album follows its own languorous pace. Sometimes the rhythms come on too strongly. Nothing that sparkles, but makes for pleasant listening. Though a couple of songs give you a ‘heard-before’ feeling, Yuvan , with his habitual neat instrumental touches (be it the violin, sarangi, flute-whatever), adds newness to them.
