Music Prince Yuvan Shankar Raja’s Mother Jeeva  Ilayaraja passed away Saturday(01-11-2011) night following cardiac arrest.

She had complained of chest pain and was rushed to Apollo Hospital, where doctors declared she was brought dead.

Family sources said Jeeva, 60, was suffering from viral infection for the past few days.

She had undergone a by-pass surgery about five years ago. Ilayaraja was in Hyderabad for recording and rushed to Chennai on hearing the news.

Former chief minister M. Karunanidhi and DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin, besides several movie personalities such as directors Balachandar, Bharathiraja, Balu Mahendra, Kasthuri Raja, Vasanth and Mahendran, actors Kamal Haasan, Sivakumar, Khushboo, Simbhu and Vishal, music directors M.S.

Viswanathan and Deva, called on Ilayaraja to offer condolences and pay last respects to his wife, whose body was kept at his T Nagar house.

Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah, in a condolence message, told Ilayaraja, “I am deeply shocked and grieved to hear about the sudden demise of your beloved wife”.

The last rites will take place on Wednesday at Jeeva’s birthplace, Pannayapuram, in Theni district.

Ilayaraja’s sons Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja are also music composers while daughter Bhavatharini is a singer.

Expressing anguish at Ilayaraja’s bereavement, actor Sivakumar said it would be difficult to console someone who had lost his companion of decades and was taking care of his entire daily needs just like a mother.
