Rajapattai Music Review - Yuvan Shankar Raja

Rajapattai Music Review - Yuvan
A top-notch actor-Vikram, a promising director-Suseenthiran and a leading music composer-Yuvan Shankar Raja... When these three men come together, the output is a musical bonanza. For songs from 'Rajapattai' lives up to the film's name, as they have got the power to clear the way and make it to the top.

As usual, Yuvan Shankar Raja has utilized the service of a battery of talented singers, who have given energy and enthusiasm to the album. Despite his regular style, Yuvan has also made some new attempts which needs appreciation.

Rajapattai is quite a different film for director Suseenthiran and actor Vikram for their previous movies were based on exceptional themes. With the attempts of making a commercial movie, the duo comes together.  A close look at songs from 'Rajapattai', which marks Vikram's return to commercial cinema:

01 - Podi Paiyan Polave

Singers:  Haricharan
Lyricist:  Yugabharathi

Simplicity is the best decoration. Proving this is 'Podi Paiyan Polave...' With a straight forward tune and easy beats, the song makes its first impression in an impressive way.  Mixing is done with excellence. Repeated hearings required to grab your attention into the song. Only Yuvan Shankar Raja can do these kinds of funky tunes.  Haricharan gives shape to Yuvan's tune and Yugabharathi's words with his voice.

02 - Villathi Villain

Singers:  Mano, Malathi
Lyricist:  Yugabharathi

M for Mano, Malathi, music and masti. Veteran Mano is back in full form. In the company of the ever energetic Malathi, the singer gives us an interesting song, which of course has loads of paeans on Vikram.  Yuvan goes for the retro-style track. It's evident with the vocalizing pattern, Live Drums, etc, etc. The song should keep the audiences engrossed with the visuals and the scintillating appearance of Vikram in different get-ups. Yuvan proves once again that he is in good form.

03 - Paniye Panipoove

Singers:  Javed Ali, Renuka
Lyricist:  Yugabharathi

A melodious number in which Yuvan Shankar Raja seems to have worked overtime. 'Paniye Panipoove...', sung by Javed Ali and Renuka will be remembered for its smooth tune and soft composition which is adding more romantic feel to the song. Yuvan keeps shifting between major and minor scales. The string works can be regarded as one of the best works that occurs during the second interlude.  Yugabharathi's beautiful words add more suaveness to the product.  Yugabharathi might have avoided comparing love with "Eelam".

04 - Laddu Laddu Rendu

Singers:  Vikram, Priyadarshini, Suchitra
Lyricist:  Yugabharathi

Yuvan Shankar Raja has tried to rendering the Kuthu song in late 80s style as in his father Maestro Ilayaraja's style. Well, we can sense it with the bass, brass and the rhythmic accompaniment. In order to offer a transition, he goes for a DJ kind of work during second verse. The song will be a sure treat for the frontbenchers in theatres.  This song is already making waves, for the media is writing too much about it thanks to the two beautiful women- Shriya Saran and Reemma Sen - who appear in this special number. The Chiyaan has crooned it with utmost energy in the company of Priyadarshini and Suchitra. Get ready to shake your legs as Yuvan rocks big time in this number.

05 - Podi Paiyan Polave

Singers:  Haricharan
Lyricist:  Yugabharathi

Not just life, but this album too is a circle. Things are back to square one when Rajapattai song-list concludes with 'Podi Paiyaan Polave...', the song with which it started. In a sense, it is a double bonanza to the listeners.

Verdict:

For Music Lovers "Podi Paiyan Polavae.." & "Paniyae Pani Poovae.."' will be a treat to ears with its soft musical.  For the Commercial Lovers "Laddu Laddu.." and "Villathi Villain.." will surely arrests the senses of Ears.  Rajapattai' songs on the whole it is Catchy, Peppy, Youthful, Vibrant and are a treat to those who like an interesting collage of music...
